Russell Wilson announces new deal with Seahawks from bed

Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks imposed an April 15th deadline to strike a new deal.  As the minutes inched closer to midnight on April 14th, the two sides agree to a contract extension that will make Wilson the NFL’s highest paid player. Need proof on the timing? Wilson announced his deal from bed, with his wife Ciara.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Wilson’s new deal is for four years and $140 million, and includes a $65 million signing bonus.  Wilson may not be the absolute best quarterback in the NFL but his add value, plus the economics of the quarterback position are the framework of this deal.

Wilson has topped the 100 passer rating mark in four out of his seven seasons with Seattle.  Since Wilson assumed the starting job in Seattle in 2012, the Seahawks have been in the playoffs six times, including two Super Bowl appearances.
