NFL to launch LQBTQ group

The NFL is creating an employee affinity group to support LGBTQ employees and spearhead efforts to embrace diversity in the NFL, Outsports’s Cyd Zeigler reports. The group, which is open to all league employees, will be called NFL Pride.

Zeigler, along with former Patriots lineman Ryan O’Callaghan who came out publicly last month, will speak at the inaugural NFL Pride event on August 16th at the league offices in New York.

Robert Gulliver, the NFL’s human resources head, explained NFL Pride’s origin to Zeiger:

“This year we have received a groundswell of employees essentially coming to our diversity council and indicating they wanted to set up a pride LGBTQ affinity group.”

Whether or not O’Callaghan’s powerful story served as the NFL’s tipping point, it’s nice to see the league embrace such an underserved group among its fanbase.
