Slime! SpongeBob! NFL Preps for Wild Card Game Simulcast on Nickelodeon

Of the crises the NFL faces in the present and near future, none are as pressing as the need to reel in a younger audience. The youngest audience. While 3 year olds are too young to be polled, data from Gen Z is not promised. In a September survey by Morning Consult among those born roughly between the mid-1990’s and early 2010s, only 21% considered themselves avid sports fan. Half the respondents said they weren’t sports fans at all, a chunk that is 10% higher than older Americans.

The NFL is looking to change that trajectory with a bold simulcast of CBS’s Wild Card game, on Viacom-owned Nickelodeon.

The family-friendly game, which will air at 4:30 ET on January 10th will feature of bevy of optics familiar to Nick fans.

Broncos star Von Miller will host The SpongeBob SquarePants Countdown Special which will feature SpongeBob’s greatest sports moments.

Calling the game will be 24-year-old Noah Eagle, alongside popular NFL on CBS host Nate Burleson with 14-year-old Lex Lumpkin (all That, Unfiltered) roaming the sidelines.

The teaser video above shows google eyes on players, a stream of slime and other animated features.
