Kareem Hunt suspended eight games for assault

The NFL announced Friday that Browns running back Kareem Hunt will be suspended for the first eight games of the regular. season for his role in physical altercations at his home last February and an Ohio hotel last June.  Hunt was famously videotaped pushing and shoving a women. The woman contacted police at the time, and initially wanted to press charges before later not cooperating with authorities.

Hunt is not appealing the suspension. He released a statement through the Cleveland Browns:

Roger Goodell announced a new player conduct policy in December 2014 on the heels of the Ray Rice video. The policy rooted in domestic violence and assault toward women states that an infraction would result in a baseline six-game suspension. Evidence that mitigates or exacerbates the situation could alter the ruling. Clearly a video tape falls in the later category.

The league has been wildly consistent in enforcing its policy. Ex-Giants kicker Josh Brown was suspended just one game after admitting he abused his wife. Meanwhile, Ezekiel Elliott was suspended six games without any overwhelming evidence. The policy remains a work in progress, as does the career of Hunt.
