Jason Witten Returning To Cowboys After Year in MNF Booth

After one year in the Monday Night Football booth, Jason Witten will get back to the field with the Cowboys. The Cowboys announced the tight end would come back for a 16th NFL season Thursday afternoon. Witten says he is excited to get back to competing, “The fire inside of me to compete and play this game is just burning too strong. This team has a great group of rising young stars, and I want to help them make a run at a championship.”

The announcement comes after Witten was highly and frequently criticized during his short tenure in the ESPN Monday Night Football set up. Twitter celebrated Witten’s return to football.

According to Adam Schefter , Witten’s contract is $3.5 million for one year. Schefter is also reporting the Cowboys have long thought Witten would make an excellent coach and with Jason Garrett’s contract up at the end of the season, this might be a power move for the Cowboys.

Witten leaving leaves ESPN in a spot to figure out something new again for Monday Night Football this year. This could be ESPN’s greatest gift in years.
