Aaron Rodgers Donating $1 Million to Recovery Efforts After Northern California Fire

Packers quarterback and Chico native Aaron Rodgers announced on social media Wednesday that he would be donating a hefty sum of $1 million dollars to help rescue and recovery efforts in Butte County, California where the Camp Fire began on Nov. 8th has had devastating effects. An emotional Rodgers, wearing a Butte Strong tee shirt, also offered ways the public can help.

The death toll from the Northern California fire is up to 82, while hundreds are still missing. 12,500 homes have been destroyed by the fire. The town of Paradise, in particular, was burnt to the ground. This wildfire is the nation’s most catasptrophic in more than a decade.

Packers head coach Mike McCarthy noted the importance of the fire to Rodgers:

“He’s so much more than just our quarterback. I know the Camp Fire has been constantly on his mind. We talk about it pretty much every day. I think what he’s doing in using his platform is tremendous.”
