Dez Bryant after release: ‘If I didn’t have my edge I got it now’

Dez Bryant needs to change his Twitter avatar that currently reads:

Maybe he’s still blessed but he’s no longer a Cowboy for life or even a Cowboy at all after Dallas officially released the 29-year-old wideout as had been widely rumored.

There was no negotiation, no offer of a pay cut, just a clean break for both sides. It’s been a topsy-turvy seven years for the Cowboys and Bryant, who the team selected no. 24 overall in the 2010 draft.

As his Twitter bio states, he was an All-Pro in 2014 and a three-time pro Bowler, giving the Cowboys a bonafide deep threat for several years. But Bryant’s production has waned over the last two seasons. Some of it was due to injury. Some of it was due to a diminishing ability to break free of defenders. Last season while playing all 16 games, Bryant produced 838 yards and 6 TDs. Not bad for a complementary receiver, but not enough for a player that was supposed to be a central piece of the offense.
