Mike Vick hired by FOX Sports as studio analyst

A decade ago, Mike Vick was in prison for orchestrating a dog fighting business. Now he’ll be a studio NFL analyst for FOX, appearing on the net’s early kickoff show as well as guesting on FS1’s debate shows.

“I’m very excited,” Vick told USA TODAY Sports in a phone interview on Friday. “Over the last seven or eight months, I’ve done a lot of interviews, and I think I’ve gotten better as I’ve been put in those situations more often. Things really came together over the last couple months. They have shows that I have always watched and admired.”

Vick is no stranger to FS1. Last month on Speak For Yourself he got into hot water by suggesting Colin Kaepernick needed to “cut his hair” to boost employment prospects. He later apologized for the comment.

Vick joins Ray Lewis as controversial stars hired by FOX this season. Unlike Lewis, whose past remains murky, Vick has been quite forthcoming his former life as a criminal. Since leaving prison he has became an animal-rights activist and completely stayed away from trouble.

Vick’s prowess as a broadcaster is yet to be determined but with its new hires FOX is clearly going for buzz over experience.
