Ryan Mathews, Fresno State

Ryan Mathews, the star running back draft prospect from Fresno State, has been a dominant force for some time.  As a high school senior he led the nation with 3396 rushing yards and 44 touchdowns.  And, in the  Wildcat department he was also the team’s part-time quarterback, passing for 851 yards and 11 touchdowns.

This past season, as a junior, Mathews led the nation with a rushing average of 161.6 yards a game for the Bulldogs.  Will he exhibit the same type of dominance in the NFL?  Only time will tell.  For now, Mathews is being projected as a late first-rounder/early second-rounder by most experts out there, with many dubbing him the “best all-around running back in the draft.”

It’s all about the football speed!

I recently had the opportunity to talk to Mathews about his whole draft prospect experience.   Which NFL head coach asked him the strangest question – and what was it?  Where does Ryan see himself getting drafted?  What NFL runners does his style emulate? What’s the first thing he’ll buy when he signs a contract?  All these questions and much more.  Take a listen!
