Jeff Hart: Wednesday Linkfest for October 12, 2011

Apparently not satisfied by the limited lockout publicity he’s been receiving from his McDonalds campaign, NBA Championship runner-up Lebron James took to Twitter to tease a jump to the NFL. He’s even been pitching himself directly to Seahawks coach Pete Carroll. It’s been far too long since we had a two sport athlete, but Lebron won’t be joining the Bo and Deion pantheon. He’s all talk – just ask anyone from Cleveland, or his seven championship rings. Big as Lebron is – and it’d be awesome to see him line up as a TE – the NFL is too physically destructive for him to risk joining. Wouldn’t it be great to see Lebron get blown up over the middle, though? We can dream.
And anyway, there are worse investments than paying Lebron the rookie minimum for a few games, right? Just ask the New England brass that spent $6 million on Chad Ochocinco.
Tim Tebow’s been the starter in Denver for less than 24 hours (although he’s been the starter in our hearts for much longer), and we already have our first meaningless brouhaha. According to ESPN’s Total QBR, Tebow played a better game than Aaron Rodgers on Sunday. Don’t you get it yet? Tebow means pageviews, no matter how meaningless the comparison, how pointless the argument, or how out-of-context the picture of him crying.

Speaking of complicated statistics the origin of which I don’t understand (it’s like intelligent design – but with numbers!), Cold Hard Football Facts has Jahvid Best’s Monday night outing as the best rushing performance of the season so far. In fact, according to their rating system, Best was perfect.
Good to see that the #OccupyAndyReid movement is going strong in Philadelphia. Beyond protests, there’s even talk inside the Eagles organization to bring in a consultant to help defensive coordinator Juan Castillo. Would Castillo be the league’s first coordinator to be assigned a tutor?
Howie Long was on the Jim Rome show yesterday, reflecting on the legacy of Al Davis. It’s pretty candid and well worth a listen. It also includes Long making reference to some kind of gag order that’s still in place from his college days.
Finally, if you’re still somehow unaware of what a rad dude Vikings punter Chris Kluwe is, you should probably check out this in depth profile from Shutdown Corner.
