Jeff Hart: Tuesday Linkfest for September 27, 2011

Joe Namath, who does color commentary on Twitter for all Jets games, called out coach Rex Ryan for overinflating the egos of his team. Ryan’s response was surprisingly measured for the normally outspoken coach as he invited Namath to come watch the team practice, then reminded reporters that “once you’re a jet, you’re always a jet.”

Taking a break from fantasy drafting reality stars and improving their Shawshank-reference/word ratio, Grantland has an interesting piece on the inner-workings of Darren McFadden’s 70-yard TD run. Finally, someone to explain how football works!

FOX Sports issued an on-air apology for concocting phony headlines to accompany an opening week piece on what a huge wimp Jay Cutler was for leaving that NFC Championship. Gosh, it’s a good thing this fast and loose approach to the facts is only taking place in FOX’s football telecasts.

Speaking of lousy broadcasting, here’s a clip of Greg Gumbel and Dan Dierdorf napping their way through Kevin Walter’s incredible pinball catch. I argued last week that NFL announcers should either wake up or be replaced by more enthusiastic Spanish announcers (it’d also be a great step toward making our whole country bilingual!), and this is just further proof. I’m pretty sure CBS kicked it to the Spanish announcer for a couple plays during Jets/Raiders, but couldn’t find any video online to verify. Can anyone confirm?

How about we check in on North America’s 2nd and 3rd most popular football leagues? Did you know that the Lingerie Football League had a bench clearing brawl recently? What a disgrace to this once proud game. I’m not sure the LFL’s reputation will ever recover.

Meanwhile, in the CFL, this is happening:

Finally, just fair warning before you watch this last video, it may turn you into a 49ers fan. Or, it might make you worry for Jim Harbaugh’s safety. I haven’t decided.
