Jeff Hart: Tuesday Linkfest for May 22, 2012

I hope you enjoy stories about the Detroit Lions, because today’s Linkfest is basically a newsletter from The Motor City. Is all this news-making a coincidence or a concerted effort to lure in Hard Knocks?
The first story is just perfect for HBO with second-year WR Titus Young getting himself banned from OTAs for sucker punching safety Louis Delmas. The temperamental Young seems like the perfect guy for a redemption-style story arc (errr… whatever you call plotlines on a “documentary”).
If Young is your potential Hard Knocks heel, then Matt Stafford would be the hero. Stafford dropped $15K at a charity auction for a children’s hospital and then donated his prize to a patient and her family. And while this has nothing to do with Stafford’s charitable double-down, it turns out his offensive line is looking pretty good. Karma?
And meanwhile, here’s Megatron hitting a homerun in batting practice. Just another day as the world’s greatest athlete, right?
Calvin Johnson might be on the cover of Madden, but it’s the inclusion of Tebowing that has some eyebrows raised. If the developers are going to include Eli Manning’s SNL sandwich dance, then shouldn’t Tebow’s played out signature celebration be in as well?
Eric Dickerson is perhaps the biggest name so far to join a concussion lawsuit against the NFL. It has only been 20 years or so since football became a huge media presence with retired players earning big bucks as on-camera analysts. Expect the plaintiffs in these suits to become a lot more familiar as these guys age. What’s up, Steve Young.
Speaking of lawsuits, here’s a comprehensive dismissal of the one Jonathan Vilma filed against Roger Goodell. That article also serves as a master’s class in excessive sarcasm.
Titans rookie Kendall Wright admits some difficulty in the transition to the NFL because there weren’t any playbooks at Baylor. Has anyone asked Robert Griffin III about this?
Finally, Osi Umenyiora told reporters that his contract holdout isn’t about money so much as it is about respect. Would he take a pay cut if the Giants built him a statue by the New Jersey turnpike? (FYI, I would.)
