Jeff Hart: Tuesday Linkfest for March 20, 2012

The marquee attraction of free agency has finally come to a close. Yesterday, Peyton Manning chose the Denver Broncos, instantly upping that team’s Super Bowl odds from 50-1 to 10-1 (only the Packers, Patriots, and Saints have better odds than the Mile High Mannings). Excitement is high in Denver with even long forgotten AFL QBs emerging to offer Manning their retired jersey number. Of course, some doom-and-gloomers argue that the Broncos still need a lot of work; that their defense isn’t up to even the mediocre caliber Manning is used to. Anyway, we can all get on with our lives now.

Except, just like the old saying goes: “When God closes a door, he opens a window. And then Peyton Manning shoves Tim Tebow through it.” Manning getting settled in Denver only means we now have a new story to endlessly speculate about. Are Tebow’s feelings hurt? Did he deserve to be so callously ousted by that secular menace John Elway? Where will Tebow be traded to? As for the last question, early speculation has the Patriots coming up an awful lot.

Could Tebow really find himself backing up that vainglorious philanderer Tom Brady and taking coaching from The Ultimate Evil? I can’t really see Tebow getting along too well with this dude:

That’s Rob Gronkowski on a bender in Arbua, where he may have “hooked up” with a 16 year-old girl. Gross.

And what about the teams that Manning didn’t choose? The Titans seem to be in the best shape, or at least have the least amount of damage control to do. In fact, the only thing that might have kept Manning out of Tennessee is the sketchiness of him also becoming part owner.

As for the 49ers, they’re likely making nice with Alex Smith as I write this. Fickle Harbaugh and the rest of the organization shouldn’t worry about an offended Smith jumping ship, though. If we’ve learned one thing from the Manning drama, it’s that no one wants to play for the Dolphins
