Jeff Hart: Tuesday Linkfest for June 19, 2012

When I read that the Saints were using Dog the Bounty Hunter as a motivating device, I pictured a cardboard cutout with tear-away jeans in the Rachel Phelps/Major League mode. The reality is equally horrifying.

I mean, can’t these guys get a professional in there to make their Power Point slides? This is just horrible work. The slide comes with the rest of an NFL evidence dump, much of it extremely damning unless you believe the Saints defense of “um, JK LOL.” The question remains why the NFL held this evidence for so long and why they allowed trusted journalists to access it Wikileaks-style only after Jonathan Vilma turned yesterday’s appeal into a circus.
While some players are still questioning the legality of the NFL’s bounty punishments, Roddy White is totally on board with the commish. It’s worth pointing out that 1) White plays for the rival Falcons, and 2) that this story was picked up almost exclusively by the NFL owned news network. So, grain of salt and all.
LaDainian Tomlinson retired as a Charger yesterday. That’s nice and all, but wouldn’t it have been more appropriate if he somehow retired as a fantasy player? The arena of fake sports was really where LT had most of his success.
Fantasy dominance aside, LT will be remembered as one of the last megastar workhorse running backs. They are a dying breed. In fact, the RB position has lost a great deal of its value and that is only going to continue declining with an increase in platoons.
Pacman Jones will take a break from working as a butler for the two strip club employees who sued him to speak at the Bengals rookie symposium. The message should be clear: unless you have $11.65 million to burn, don’t act like Pacman.
And finally, for all you fans of Manning-face, some things just run in the family…
