Jeff Hart: Tuesday Linkfest for July 17, 2012

It turns out that last week’s ESPY Awards mark the official end of The Summer of Gronk. Hot on the heels of posing nude for the Worldwide Leader and then human-wheelbarrowing his way down the red carpet much to the amusement of people with empty kegs in their bathtubs, Gronkowski has been asked by the Patriots organization to tone it down. Before Gronk’s shirt and muzzle are yanked forcibly over his head, at least he had time to voice his willingness to play with a gay teammate, albeit as long as they’re, like, respectful, and stuff.

While the Patriots had to get their high strung exhibitionist on some Ritalin, the rest of the league struggles to cope with problem children of the criminal variety. It’s getting difficult to keep up with – since I woke up, there have been new reports on Dez Bryant (domestic violence) and Marshawn Lynch (DUI, hopefully in a golf cart) getting pinched. Neither of those stories is as interesting as Elvis Dumervil’s road rage, which has already started inspiring “we all get angry sometimes” rationalizations from some corners of the internet. Just to clarify – I never a carry a gun in my waistband.

Speaking of crime, Mike Vick claims that in his dark days of animal cruelty he became “better at reading dogs than defenses.” So I guess he wasn’t a very good dog fighter? Boom, roasted.

If you haven’t started planning for your fantasy football draft yet, congratulations on not being the kind of nerd slowly ruining the NFL experience. But also? You’re way behind, loser! Catch up with this interview on draft strategies with one of ESPN’s fantasy football editors and then overhaul your RB rankings with this numbers crunch on aging ball handlers. Or just continue on with your normal life and maybe do one mock draft the weekend before your league drafts – whatever you feel will be a more fulfilling use of your time.

Oh, and if you’re thinking about taking a flyer on Tim Tebow, Santonio Holmes wouldn’t recommend it
