Jeff Hart: Tuesday Linkfest for January 24, 2012

Asked what is the biggest difference between the Giants and Cowboys, Dallas owner Jerry Jones replied “Eli Manning.” Choosing a rival’s dorky QB over his own dorky QB certainly won’t go over big at home, especially when Jerry’s words get back to Tony Romo who is currently on his annual hide-and-seek retreat. I can’t blame Jerry for getting swept up in EliMania, though. Look at this guy!

Isn’t it just amazing that this 12 year-old gets to play in his second Super Bowl? (Thanks to Kissing Suzy Kolber for the awesome GIF.)

You know who definitely isn’t feeling the EliMania, or really enjoying this Super Bowl match-up much at all? Jets fans. If you root for New Jersey’s second favorite team, this article should help you cope.

Meanwhile, while Peyton Manning undergoes what must be a doozy of a midlife crisis thanks to the sudden unfavorable comparisons to his goofball younger brother, the Cardinals have emerged as the latest team worthy of Peyton-acquisition speculation. In related news, it’s no longer an absolute certainty that Peyton’s replacement will be wunderkind Andrew Luck.

This article from Deadspin on Billy Cundiff’s FG preparations is fascinating. So we can officially add Gillette Stadium’s scoreboard operator to the list of Baltimore goats. Or maybe he should be considered a New England hero? Anyway, it’s all irrelevant if Harbaugh just calls a timeout.

Athletes came out firing at professional troublemaker Skip Bayless yesterday. Vikings punter Chris Kluwe bombarded Skip with harsh Tweets after Bayless called kickers “non-players.” Earlier, Terrell Suggs took to Skip’s ESPN show First Take - a show notorious for expressing pointlessly contrarian opinions and generally being crappy - and expressed a sentiment toward Bayless that was neither contrarian nor crappy.

Last but not least, The Classical has some thoughts on Joe Paterno’s death, which segues into an interesting discussion of how athletes express themselves. Read it and then maybe watch Terrell Suggs vs. Skip Bayless one more time.
