Jeff Hart: Thursday Linkfest for September 29, 2011

FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!
A pair of Eagles football writers got into a minor fracas yesterday in the team’s media room. The rumble followed a series of scathing tweets by the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane targeting the Philadelphia Daily News’ Les Bowen. The one-sided Twitter flame-war, and subsequent head-punching, first received only local attention from Crossing Broad (and probably some other Philly blogs I’m too lazy to look up – don’t punch me!), but later hit the big lights of Deadspin, where there is now an exhaustive account.
The best part, without a doubt, is this video of Asante Samuel trying to organize a rematch and cracking up Mike Vick in the process:
Besides hyping fights between journalists, Twitter is also good for athletes interacting with their fans. For instance, Chris Long wanted to know if anyone had theories on what will happen in the next Breaking Bad. (I totally do! Let’s talk about it, Chris) His fans had other theories they wanted to share. Long, not one to get all Arian Foster about things, responded in kind.
Anyway, enough about Twitter. Let’s turn our attention to something equally as time-consuming. The guys over at Fantasyomatic have a fancy new algorithm that helps them rate performance for the rest of the season. Worth checking out if you’re running your fantasy squad with sabermetrics.
A new Walter Payton biography is on its way and, if the excerpts in Sports Illustrated are to be believed, it’s going to be dark and heartbreaking. The book portrays Payton as a troubled man who struggled with depression and drug addiction, especially after leaving football. Payton’s family is already disputing some of the stories told in the biography, claiming many of the sources lack credibility.
Finally, the Lions are 3-0 for the first time in like a billion years, and this is how you celebrate, Detroit? With a mobile strip club parked near tailgates called The Booty Lounge? For shame. Drive that back to Minnesota where it belongs.
