Jeff Hart: Thursday Linkfest for September 22, 2011

Tony Romo has officially become one of – if not the – main character of this NFL season. Every week there’s a Romo story. Over the offseason it was his goofball hide-and-seek antics. In Week One, it was his return to choke artist status. Last week, it was hero’s journey from childlike bumbler to punctured-lung-ignoring tough guy.
This week for Romo? He’s a target. Redskins CB Deangelo Hall has said he’ll be looking to put his helmet right through the gaping hole in Romo’s lung, then smear Romo’s crushed bronchioles across the front of his jersey like a gruesome badge of honor. Or something like that. It’s a good thing Romo will be wearing a protective vest.
The NFL plans to crackdown on players faking injuries in order to slow down the game. Short of two players faking injury simultaneously again, it’s not exactly clear how the NFL plans to enforce this rule. Deon Grant, by the way, has maintained his innocence throughout the week and would like the world to know that he’s actually playing on two – no, wait, three! – three torn MCLs.
Speaking of coaches that have been using fake injuries to stymie opponents for years, there’s a Hoodie-themed purse/duffel out for the New England fan that has everything. It’s what Tom Brady uses to carry his baby!

Just kidding, Brady would never be caught dead with that thing (do I mean the bag or his baby? good question). There are 739K Google image hits for “Tom Brady man purse,” and none of them have those tacky drawstrings, thank you very much.
Fearing that the Bengals have been too well-behaved this season, police are investigating the two-and-a-half pound package of pot delivered to the apartment of Jerome Simpson and Anthony Collins. I guess Simpson isn’t the hot waiver wire pick-up fantasy owner had hoped for, unless your league awards points for buying in bulk.
Is 0-2 the end of the world? Yes, probably. Shutdown Corner has an interesting article on the curse of starting off the season with two losses. Meanwhile, Sports Delve has an in-depth look at 0-2 records (and the reverse) throughout NFL history. If things already look bleak for your team, just remember, there’s always Tony Romo to cheer for.
