Jeff Hart: Thursday Linkfest for October 20, 2011

Well, at least Miami fans still have a sense of humor.

I’m really not on board with the whole “Suck for Luck” campaign. It sounds gross. Also, didn’t everyone learn their lesson after the “Play Subpar for Carr” failure? (The other good bust rhyme I came up with was “Be Stinky for Weinke” but he wasn’t a high enough draft pick.) Mike Florio posits that if a team is too terrible, Luck may elect not to play for them (or something along those lines; at some point Florio falls into an irony induced thought vortex).

Why is it a foregone conclusion that Luck will have instant success in the NFL? The whole “Suck for Luck” meme being bandied about everywhere takes Luck’s level of expectation well beyond the normal. I tried to Google “Andrew Luck” and “bust” to see if anyone was talking about the possibility of Luck not living up to expectations, but all I could find was this Jets message board. They sure do hate the Dolphins!

Following up on yesterday’s Devin Hester head-slap story, we now have an explanation as to why Dan Rago thought it necessary to mildly assault the NFL star. Turns out, Rago is a crusader for social justice. Unfortunately, he got this particular head-slap wrong.

Are we still entertaining the possibility of Lebron James playing in the NFL? Apparently so.

We’ve all heard the stories about the horrific things that can happen during a football pile-up. Well, here’s video of a college player getting punched in the nether regions while at the bottom of a pile that’s not even that large or concealing. Pile etiquette is a serious concern, people.

Speaking of groin-punches, our latest coaches to scuffle are Norv Turner and Rex Ryan. Yesterday, the pair exchanged some barbs about each other’s inability to win a Super Bowl. It might seem surprising but, should this turn physical, I’m taking Turner in the upset. It seems like there’s a lot of pent up rage in that man.

Finally, ever wonder what exactly goes on in those concussion tests the players have to take? Here’s a very vague description!
