Jeff Hart: Thursday Linkfest for January 5, 2011

Newly unemployed Bill Polian believes he was fired because he didn’t have a good back-up in place for injured Peyton Manning. So, we’re just going to blame Curtis Painter for everything now? Polian is probably right; not bothering to find a reliable hand at QB when your star is just returning from a neck replacement is a pretty huge oversight.

However, one Indianapolis journalist is claiming it was more than just personnel glitches that did in Polian. Apparently, Polian is a real jerk and his personality might have clashed with owner Jim “Free Love” Irsay. The essay is an intriguing read, right up until the writer decides to play armchair psychologist and bring up his own history of abuse.

Blowing up my Twitter yesterday was this Kordell Stewart appearance on First Take, which I had to dig up on Youtube because, shockingly, I couldn’t find a blog covering it. Check it out (it starts at about the 9 minute mark):

One look at Kordell’s Twitter page shows what the response has been like, but I think Stewart’s point is right on. Luckily, we have the guys at Deadspin around to settle this argument of racial double standards by simulating an all-white vs. all-black game of Madden.

Stewart pretty much makes Tim Tebow the face of white entitlement at QB, which is probably part of the reason that Ben Roethlisberger says it’s tough to be Tebow. Big Ben has some experience being all over television, doesn’t he? For, uh, praying a lot and sometimes without permission, right?

Forget Polian and Stewart though, the biggest football controversy to come to light yesterday – and by biggest, I mean the one with the most words written about it – is this expose on Detroit’s lack of cheerleaders. I joke about the length, but it’s actually a great read.

For more controversy, we’re already hotly anticipating LaDainian Tomlinson’s exit interview.

Finally, the judge presiding over his child support reduction hearing declared that Terrell Owens’ football days appear to be over. Is that legally binding?
