Jeff Hart: Thursday Linkfest for January 26, 2011

Should the Patriots be concerned that their fans don’t appear to be buying tickets to the Super Bowl? So far, only about 10% of tickets sold via Stub Hub have gone to the New England area, with 15% going to New Yorkers, and 75% going to rich jerks that only want to go to the parties and maybe network a little (I made those last two numbers up). Maybe Boston fans are all pooling their retain-ahhhs to save up for this baller suite.

Just don’t track any mud in on that sweet Colts carpet, okay?

Speaking of the Colts, today’s obligatory “where will Peyton play?” story has the Hall of Fame quarterback taking his talent to South Beach. That’s what the Dolphins hope, at least.

At this time last year, Peyton was being named America’s “most powerful” athlete. This year, he’s fallen all the way to #51 on that list. Usurping his top spot? The Vapo-Dad. Proving that cold medicine, a positive attitude, and the best passing season in NFL history translates into power.

It appears some members of the Giants defense were making a concerted effort to target Kyle Williams for a hard hit, knowing the wide receiver has been prone to concussions. That sort of attitude doesn’t bode well for the league ever solving its concussion problem.

You know what else doesn’t bode well? Players being allowed to Tweet from the sidelines of the Pro Bowl. Actually, it bodes awesomely. Except all the Tweeting must be done from NFL-provided kiosks, not from the players’ own mobile devices, meaning there will most definitely be some interns correcting punctuation and editing out swears.

Twitter can be a dangerous place. One Cleveland sportswriter found that out the hard way when he made a mean-spirited comment about Browns owner Randy Lerner (it included the words “pathetic” and “irrelevant”). As a result, the writer was yanked from the Browns beat, proving that the spirit of journalism not kowtowing to corporate interests is alive and well.
