Jeff Hart: Thursday Linkfest for December 29, 2011

Attention, everyone: Maurice Jones-Drew is totally a doctor now. The punishing RB came out firmly in favor of ignoring concussions, describing them as occupational hazards that have been overblown by the league as a result of litigation. MJD also declared that “It’s 2012; there are ways to fix your body.” Where do I sign up for Dr. MJD’s futuristic brain rejuvenator?
Speaking of bad ideas, don’t leave your gun collection unattended when you run into Best Buy. Your heaters might end up stolen, just like the case of Kion Wilson (now known strictly as that kid on the Panthers with a ton of guns).
Of course, leaving your shotgun in the parking lot while returning all those Blind Side DVDs your entourage gave you for Christmas isn’t nearly as bad an idea as loaning Dez Bryant money. The Cowboys wide receiver is being sued yet again for an unpaid debt. Bryant is to accounting what MJD is to medicine.

Is Terrell Owens trying to weasel his way onto the 49ers playoff bound squad via Twitter? It looks that way. You know things have gotten desperate when you’re asking Donte Whitner to do some networking for you.
The Fifth Down offers a brief look at Dan Fouts, the man who held the league passing record before Dan Marino. Won’t it be nice in a few years when we can write these sort of sentimental “did you know?” pieces on Marino?
Meanwhile, Sports Pickle has compiled a list of NFL records that are the absolute opposite of those achieved by Brees and company. Perhaps the most embarrassing record is George Blanda’s 42 interceptions in a 14 game season. And yet, his Oilers managed to go 11-3. I need a historian to explain that one to me. Did you get points for throwing INTs back then?
If you’re not a Lions fan, you can stop reading here. Otherwise, time to get a little teary-eyed about the team’s first trip to the playoffs this millennium.
