Jeff Hart: Thursday Linkfest for August 25, 2011

Let’s begin the day with some money talk! The National Football Post’s resident agent/blogger Jack Bechta has a very interesting read on how the new CBA will widen the salary gap between different positions. And so the NFL takes another step to solidifying its place as America’s game by eliminating the middle class.

Bechta mentions that the salary for punters is about to grow, predicting we’ll soon see a punter making $5M/year. Sounds like it’s time for me to start working on my leg. It’s never too late! Maybe one day my gold-plated punter cleats will be displayed with the rest of the Smithsonian’s NFL artifacts.

I guess we’re still not tired of talking about Tim Tebow. At least, Boomer Esiason isn’t. "What (former Broncos coach) Josh McDaniel saw in him God only knows. Maybe God does know — because the rest of us don't," Esiason said. Alright, guys, this is just getting mean.

Maybe Tebow can take heart in this quote from a Tech Crunch article on why The Bleacher Report is getting a $22M cash infusion:  “Unlike other types of news, [sports writing] is inherently subjective: Any seasoned fan can have just as solid of a take on a team as a sports writer or a scout.”

See, Tim? Don’t listen to Boomer! His opinion isn’t any more valuable than that dude who wrote “5 Reasons Tim Tebow is The Second Coming” on Bleacher.

The internet is flush with intriguing WR stories this morning. First, we have rumors that Roy Williams could lose his starting job with the Bears which he should have never swiped from Johnny Knox in the first place. Next, we have Plaxico Burress admitting he never really wanted to rejoin the Giants. And finally, we have Calvin Johnson hinting at plans for an epic TD celebration, the kind that requires “the stars to align.” Get the checkbook ready, Megatron.

In “he’s not racist, he’s just old” news, Panthers owner Jerry Richardson has requested that Cam Newton refrain from getting any tattoos or piercings. The request comes as no surprise after Richardson’s recent locker room banning of that “subversive” Sugar Hill Gang.
