Jeff Hart: Monday Linkfest for November 21, 2011

Getting crushed under a pile of players diving for a loose football has to be one of the horror stories they tell the new kids at Referee School to make sure they’re taking earning their stripes seriously. Yesterday, that really happened to Ron Winter. Can you imagine the flashbacks Winter will be having for the rest of his life? “Thing things I saw down there, man… unconscionable.”

The other must-see video from yesterday’s games has to be this LeGarrette Blount TD run where he runs over half of the Green Bay defense. Of course, the Bucs still fell to Aaron Rodgers and the Pack, but at least they now have a highlight to show at the Week 17 “See Ya Next Season” pancake breakfast.

I’ve decided that every time a big name QB goes down, I’m going to find an article sincerely speculating that he will be replaced with Brett Favre. Last week, we had Matt Schaub. This week, it’s Jay Cutler. Bonus points for including Favre’s jealousy of Rodgers’ amazing season as a reason to come back.

We had a Jake Locker sighting yesterday! Although if you live in the Bellingham, WA area you’re likely to have seen Locker more recently in his role as furniture salesman.

Is there anything more disconcerting that a coach and quarterback saying they’re “baffled” by three straight blowout losses? If Ryan Fitzpatrick doesn’t understand what’s wrong with his play, how can the Bills possibly fix it? Is the game plan just to keep taking beatings until an epiphany comes along? Because that does sound like a distinctly Buffalo solution.

The Henderson brothers (EJ and the other one) donated money to their former high school’s scoreboard improvement project, but then asked for the money back when the school board refused their request to slap their name on the scoreboard. If they can get their money back from the ungrateful school board, the Henderson brothers plan to donate it to an organization that understands the give-and-take nature of charity.

Finally, are you ready for your Monday morning think-piece comparing ESPN’s Tebow narrative to Spike Lee’s ideas of “the magical negro”? Of course you are!
