Jeff Hart: Monday Linkfest for January 2, 2012

By: Jeff Hart | Posted: January 02, 2012

Thanks for wishing us all a Happy New Year’s from your hospital bed, Adrian Peterson! Looks like a real ice cream rager in the recovery room. Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.

As for you, Stevie Johnson, while your well wishes are appreciated, isn’t this celebration in violation of what I’m assuming has to be your New Year’s resolution to stop hurting your teammates? Or was this year’s resolution focused on getting that game-winning drops average below one per season?

2012 didn’t get off to a great start for a lot of NFL teams, but the Jets had a particularly ugly New Year’s Day. It wasn’t just that the blustery squad lost to the Dolphins and fell to a middling 8-8, but they imploded while doing it. Santonio Holmes stands accused of quitting on his team and basically causing a dispute in the huddle. Meanwhile, Antonio Cromartie wants to make sure everyone is clear where the blame should land. Here’s a gallery of sad Jets pictures that pretty much sums yesterday up.

Speaking of 8-8 teams that don’t deserve to be in the playoffs, the Denver Broncos backed into the tournament yesterday with a thrilling 7-3 loss against the Kansas City Ortons. Brady Quinn was all like “WTF guys, I don’t get to play?” Now the Broncos get to host a home playoff game against the Steelers, which any reasonable person should agree is too much of a payoff for winning the AFC West.

Not everyone had a bad start to the year. Matthew Stafford and Tom Brady joined Drew Brees in the not-so-exclusive-anymore 5,000 yards club. Is this season just a statistical freak or are these massive numbers just foreshadowing of the future of the league?

Finally, further regarding the league’s future, here’s a profile on Aaron Rodgers’ brother. He plays QB at Vanderbilt. Watch out, Manning, Hasselbeck, and McCown families!
