Jeff Hart: Friday Linkfest for October 7, 2011

Leave it to high school cheerleaders to provide the week’s worst attempt at a back-flip. Congratulations, Marion Barber, you’re off the hook.
Earlier in the week I came out firmly on the side of Bernard Berrian after he told a paraplegic combat veteran to “sit down and shut up” on Twitter. An unfortunate choice of words? Sure. But the media had really blown Berrian’s gaffe out of proportion. The guys over at Kissing Suzy Kolber agreed and produced a series of satirical Tweets mocking the situation.
And that’s when Berrian came unhinged. Through his PR rep, Berrian threatened legal action if the post wasn’t removed. Shutdown Corner has a detailed recap of the entire situation, which I like mostly because they mention that the veteran originally slighted by Berrian “took [the insults] in stride” – exactly the kind of poor word choice that got Berrian into this mess in the first place. Boycott Shutdown Corner!
Anyway, KSK’s post on the Berrian cease-and-desist - a request the site unfortunately caved to despite Berrian not having a leg to stand on when it comes to the First Amendment – is absolutely required reading. This Twitter thing would’ve quickly blown over and Berrian could’ve gone back to a guy I knew only as someone usually available on the fantasy waiver wire. Now? Berrian will forever be the kind of humorless jerk that tries to flex “slander” suits against hard-working bloggers.
Currently, there are six QBs on pace to break Dan Marino’s single season passing record. Not a great year to be a CB, huh?
I cannot in good conscience recommend that you watch this clip from an out of control Outside the Lines discussion of Hank Williams. It’s that special kind of awful television where two dudes just yell nonsensically at each other while a third pulls shocked faces. If you like that kind of thing – or debates of who is more southern or who lost more relatives in The Holocaust – then this is the clip for you.
Interesting article by The National Football Post’s resident agent on the kind of financial advice he gives his players. An especially good read if you have 500K in savings.
Need something to do this weekend? Start planning your trip to England! Bears/Bucs at Wembley tickets are still very available.
