Jeff Hart: Friday Linkfest for July 20, 2012

Young would-be felons of the NFL, I present your new role model: Chad Johnson.

Despite a fundamental misunderstanding of what an acronym is (AFC and NFC are only two acronyms, not six), Chad Johnson makes a lot of good points about the kind of behavior NFL players should be avoiding. Also, his face is all over the graphics, which makes them hard to forget.

For the non-criminal set - which is still literally 98% of the league - your role model is Ed Reed. He’s doing a bang-up job representing himself this off-season.

Because I really like transitioning from off-season crime spree updates to Mike Vick stories, here’s one where Vick claims the Eagles could be a dynasty on the level of the 90s Cowboys or 49ers. Didn’t Vick learn anything from Vince Young last year? I really hope this ‘QB cursing the Eagles with impossible expectations’ thing becomes an annual tradition.

Fear not, Philadelphia fans. Your team might be doomed yet again, but you have cool new tickets that can be scanned into your cell phone to reveal an Eagles player reading a special message from cue cards. The tickets also send an alert to Andy Reid’s son that you’re at the game and out of the house, so he knows it’s cool to burglarize your unattended home! Go, Philly!

Wow – did I get back on crime already? Terrell Owens stayed out of jail by finally paying his back child support. Meanwhile, Brett Favre remained a douche in the court of public opinion by being all dismissive about the Packers retiring his number. Personally, I can’t decide which of these former stars I want to write about less, so let’s move on to something really important.

What’s the Gatorade situation like in Cincinnati? Jonathan Joseph has some thoughts. Now this, readers, is a controversy I enjoy covering.
