Jeff Hart: Friday Linkfest for July 13, 2012

For some expert analysis of the Freeh Report – which, by the way, makes it abundantly clear that Joe Paterno and others within the Penn State organization had more than an inkling of what Jerry Sandusky was up to, and would likely mean perjury charges if Paterno was still alive – we turn it over to the Worldwide Leader’s resident failed GM and sobbing homer.

Here’s Matt Millen before the report was actually released describing how he was interviewed. Note the end where he clearly expects to have to defend the report because it’ll go easy on the university (oops).

And here’s Millen after someone has summarized the report for him, handling the Paterno legacy with kid gloves. Please note, as far as flaws go, allowing children to be raped is a pretty big one.

For a more nuanced perspective, we look to Roddy White. The Falcons star and Penn State alum insists he would still send his kid to Happy Valley because the program was solid and it isn’t like they were “rapping” football players. Roddy’s correct; Sandusky mainly targeted kids wowed by being around the football program but not yet old enough to strap on pads. Let’s all keep that in mind and continue to support Penn State football and JoePa’s legend! Remember what’s important.

In lighter news, DJ Williams used non-human urine in one of his failed drug tests. It isn’t clear what kind of animal it was (hopefully a horse, for all the Broncos jokes), or whether he acquired the animal urine manually or by mail.

What’s interesting about this Cam Newton article where he’s scolded for selling his autograph for $125 (don’t worry, this is at collector’s shows, the price is still free for fans that harass him in public) isn’t so much Newton as it is the price-tag of the guys he’s signing with. Come on, Bo Jackson, you can do better than $75.

Is it too early to start highlighting the best games of the upcoming NFL schedule? No, not at all. In fact, the NFL should consider putting this guy in charge of flex scheduling.

Lastly, maybe you’d like to spend your weekend becoming a better communicator. If so, please consult Football Outsiders’ handy guide to “Rogerizing” your communications. If you don’t comply, we’ll suspend you.
