Carrie Underwood to Replace Faith Hill on SNF. Yawn.

I guess I’m supposed to react to the news that Carrie Underwood has been tapped to replace Faith Hill as Sunday Night Football’s opener. “Did you hear about Carrie?” were actually the first words my husband uttered to me this morning. (Ok, maybe the second or third, but close enough to the first).
No reaction over here. I liked Faith Hill. I also like Carrie Underwood and get that her mass appeal and ability to stay sexy longer makes her a more suitable fit. But freaky Grammy dresses aside, Underwood’s music is what interests me. Not “Waiting All Day For Sunday Night,” set to the old Joan Jett classic, “I Hate Myself For Loving You.” The song is fine; Sunday Night Football clearly needs an open that screams spectacular and reminds the audience how the NFL transcends the sports zeitgeist (in case they didn’t already realize).

Still, I’ve found NBC’s recent transformation of NFL stars (the Manning brothers, Ray Lewis, Victor Cruz, etc.) into quasi-robotic superheroes during the opening song far more chill-inducing than the song itself. And isn't the football why we're there?
But then again I’m not a horny, country-loving dude.
