Atlanta Falcons
Head Coach Mike Smith is anxious to see the offensive line in game competition and says not to put much stock in depth charts. This unit is a huge area of concern for the Falcons and changes may occur.
Chicago Bears
LB Brian Urlacher missed his sixth straight practice. Yesterday’s absence was not directly cited to his sore knee but for personal reasons. However, Lovie Smith is confident Urlacher will be fine, saying yesterday, “when we have more information, Brian will be our (middle) linebacker this year and all kinds of other things out there.” Is that just a company line?
Houston Texans
Arian Foster’s new vegan diet has caused a major stir this preseason. I’m not really sure why, but then again, I’m a vegetarian. In any event, Foster’s Houston dietician came to his defense and went so far as to suggest a plant-based diet could be the future for many professional athletes.
Kansas City Chiefs
Like all teams the Chiefs released their depth chart this week and listed Brady Quinn as the team’s backup quarterback. Quinn is in a battle with Ricky Stanzi for the position and is apparently the early leader.
Pittsburgh Steelers
More news on Ben Roethlisberger, although this time not direct. The Steelers announced that two rookies will start on the offensive line in Thursday’s preseason opener against the Eagles. David DeCastro, the team’s first-round pick, will start at right guard. Mike Adams, a second-rounder, will start at left tackle.
Washington Redskins
RB Roy Helu believes he has a chance to compete for the starting tailback slot. While anointed starter Tim Hightower recovers from knee surgery, Helu and Evan Royster will get an even number of carries in Thursday’s game at Buffalo.
