NFL Training Camp Roundup for August 6th

Arizona Cardinals

Why yes, there was a game last night. And it was a terrible night for QB Kevin Kolb, who followed up an easy interception by suffering a bruised rib muscle and diaphragm.  Head coach Ken Whisenhunt said the injury isn’t serious and Kolb could be back at practice this week. Remember, the Cardinals are one of those teams with a QB battle in camp, as Kolb dukes it out with John Skelton for the starting gig.

Atlanta Falcons

With former offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey game and new offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter in place, there is a good chance Michael Turner will see a reduction in carries as the teams tries to incorporate Jacquizz Rodgers. Turner is ok with a small reduction, but he will be unhappy if the reduction is drastic.

Green Bay Packers

Backup QB Graham Harrell led the No. 1 offense yesterday, a rarity for this point in training camp. It was “veteran select” night off, and Aaron Rodgers was one of the veterans who selected to be off. Also absent was Greg Jennings who suffered a concussion on Friday.

New York Giants

CB Terrell Thomas is scheduled to visit famed sports doctor James Andrews to determine the severity of his injury.  It was believed Thomas suffered a torn ACL after slipping at practice a week ago; however, other doctors that have examined Thomas do not think his ACL is torn.

New York Jets

QB Tim Tebow has been working on his deep throws. Rex Ryan thinks he puts a nice touch on deep passes, although expressed concern about the time it takes to get out of his hands.

Pittsburgh Steelers

QB Ben Roethlisberger did not practice yesterday, saying he needed to give his ankle bruise 48 hours to heal. There were reports over the weekend that his bruise is actually a left ankle sprain, which would make his recovery time a whole different situation.

Seattle Seahawks

The team is bringing in WR Terrell Owens for a tryout. The 38-year old hasn’t played since the 2010 season and comes with one or two pieces of baggage.
