Week 8 Start 'Em/Sit 'Em - Wide Receiver and Tight End Edition
By: The Football Girl | Posted: October 29, 2010
As the weekend approaches it’s time to roll out the wide receiver and tight end that will help or hinder your lineup. It is difficult to bench a player who performed last week, but sometimes the matchups rule all – as in our suggestions for wide receiver benching. I hope this advice helps you on your way to Week 8 victory.
Wide Receivers
Start ‘Em
Terrell Owens (at Miami): Owens has been on fire as of late, scoring in each of the last three games. In one of his sole bright spots as a Bill last season, Owens had 96 yards and a score in his second meeting with the Dolphins. And with Carson Palmer generally throwing the ball better, Owens is a must start.
Pierre Garcon (vs. Houston0: Garcon had already put up big numbers last week (103 yards and a touchdown) and will now see an increased role due to Austin Collie’s injury. This is a blessing for Garcon owners, since the Colts play the league’s worst pass defense – a defense that should be largely focused on Reggie Wayne.
Dwayne Bowe (vs. Buffalo): After being the joke of the league two weeks ago, Bowe has played with Pro Bowl form, scoring four touchdowns in the last two game. sThe Bills don’t allow a lot of passing yards, but have given up 14 passing touchdowns, second worst in the league.
Sit ‘Em
Mike Williams (at Oakland): Williams has been quite productive with 210 yards and a score in the past two games so you may be tempted to start him. Well, those numbers came against the Bears and Cardinals, who have significantly weaker secondaries than this week’s opponent, the Raiders
Marques Colston (vs. Pittsburgh): This is clearly some risky advice, especially since Colston finally had a highly productive game last week. But he’s been a pretty huge fantasy bust overall, not garnering a hundred yards or a touchdown until last week. The Steelers are not friendly to wide receivers and will be playing Colston tight, so it’s hard to imagine this being the spot for Colston’s second big game, especially considering how un-Drew Brees like his quarterback is playing.

"Bring out that Houston defense!"
Tight Ends
Start ‘Em
Vernon Davis (vs. Denver): Davis has pretty much occupied this spot for weeks, and with good reason. Davis already has 4 touchdowns and 422 yards this season and he should be the most looked to option for Troy Smith in London. Beware of an ankle injury that has kept him out of practice the last few days, but until we hear otherwise Davis should be good to go.
Zach Miller (vs. Seattle): Miller has scored in four of the last five contests and is “Camkowski’s” most reliable weapon. Seattle has been awfully friendly to stud opposing tight ends. (Antonio Gates and Vernon Davis both had huge games against them)
Dustin Keller (vs. New York Jets): Keller’s fantasy performance has been inconsistent lately, but he still has five touchdowns on the year and is definitely the favorite target of Mark Sanchez. The Packers defense is tough and will be rushing Sanchez, which should mean that when Sanchez does get the ball off, the first look will likely be the high-percentage target of Keller.
Sit ‘Em
Marcedes Lewis (at Dallas): The Lewis luster seems to be dulling quickly. Lewis has had minimal production the past two weeks (39 and 44 yards, no TDs) and we can’t imagine much improvement against a not-kind-to-tight-ends Dallas secondary.
Jeremy Shockey (vs. Pittsburgh): The once stud tight end has been reduced to a minimal role in the passing game as of late. The last two games, Shockey has four catches in total for 51 yards and facing a Steelers defense that has been unkind to opposing tight ends.
