An Ode to Leslie Nielsen - Monday Night Football style

Way back yonder, before the days of Frank Gifford inducing yawns with his Monday Night Football storytime, there were promos that were touching, relevant, silly, or all three.  And they often featured real celebrities.

A couple of months ago we unveiled our Top 10 Greatest Monday Night Football Promos of All-Time and clocking in at number one was Leslie Neilsen with this ode to the Bengals circa 2004 (see below). Enjoy . Rest in Peace, Leslie.

10) September 8th, 2003 - Bucs vs. Eagles  - Britney Spears 

 Perfect combination of being unintentionally funny and playing to the MNF demographic.

9) September 22nd, 2003- Raiders vs, Broncos- Samuel L. Jackson

Sam Jackson gives us a little tutorial on what it means to hate.

8) September 15th, 2003- Cowboys vs. Giants - The Sopranos

Bill Parcells is hanging with a new crew and the Sopranos C-listers are nervous.

7) 1973 Season - Howard Cosell, Don Meredith, Frank Gifford

Sweet graphics. A classic that simply "tells it like it is."

6) October 6th, 2003 - Colts vs. Bucs - Jack Black

Black in Shakesperean mode before his schtick got old.

5) December 11th, 2006 - Bears vs. Rams- Barack Obama

Obama at the peak of his coolness.

4) December 8th, 2003 - Rams vs. Browns

A sassy Kelly Ripa really digs the Rams.

3) November 15th, 2004 - Cowboys/Eagles Desperate Housewives/Terrell Owens

Nicolette Sheridan gets a little too racy with the then Eagles WR.

2) September 26th, 2006 -  Falcons vs. Saints - Katrina/When the Saints Go Marching In

Saints' first game back in the Superdone. Good luck staying dry-eyed.

1) October 25th, 2004 - Broncos vs. Bengals

Leslie Nielsen tries to resurrect the Bengals after a long Monday Night Football hiatus.

That Obama one is just a sad reminder of what might have been. Such hope, such enthusiasm, such a promise of a new day, to return us to our rightful position on top of the world.

And then Rex Grossman had to go and ruin it all for us.

They're all great - the Leslie Nielssn is priceless and a wonderful tribute - #7 from the 70's is fantastic!
