Every season new NFL stars catapult onto the scene from practically nowhere.  Last year, no one took the league by storm more than Texans running back, Arian Foster.  Foster led the league in rushing (1616) and TDs (18) in 2010, and is already considered by many experts to be the number one pick in upcoming fantasy drafts (a distinction many consider just as important). This morning, I got a chance to chat with Foster, who in Los Angeles for tonight’s ESPYs — he’s nominated for three awards.  He is also working with Subway Restaurants on an important promotion for charity.…

Thomas Jones is the ultimate personification of multi-faceted.  In this in-depth profile interview, we discuss the workout regime that has contributed to his usually long running back career; his pursuit of a Master’s in Education; his wait-until-you-hear-it exotic car collection; and his side career as a music mogul. And don’t worry football fans, we also discuss his platoon situation in Kansas City and get his thoughts on fantasy football.  Plus you can add him to list of guys not in favor of the new devastating hit rules. The interview is long (17:30) but Jones is a remarkably interesting listen. Listen…

In advance of the big Giants/Cowboys match-up on Monday Night, I got a chance to talk to the outspoken Giants safety, Antrel Rolle.  Some of the topics covered include Rolle’s adjustment to Tom Coughlin’s system, his thoughts on playing for the second most popular team in New York, and, of course, the NFL’s new devastating hit rules. Listen to the entire Antrel Rolle interview here (Total running time:12:38).  Excerpts are below. Excerpts: On the new NFL hit rules:  Naturally I’m not for the suspension of the helmet-to-helmet contact.  This is a very fast game; we’ve been taught to play the game extremely…

We continue our series of player interviews by talking to one of the NFL’s rising stars, Dallas Cowboys cornerback Mike Jenkins.  The outspoken Pro Bowler, already known for not mincing words with the media, took some time to address a variety of subjects ranging from his personal goals for this season to his thoughts on Jerry World to which team should sign Terrell Owens (Hint: They’re in the NFC East). The Football Girl:  I saw you quoted somewhere as saying your rookie season was mediocre.  What did you change to transform  from “mediocre” to a Pro Bowler last year? Mike…

The always jovial Vakapuna. (Photo credit: Bengals.com) You may know Fui Vakapuna, Bengals fullback, as one of the stars of last year’s Hard Knocks.  Vakapuna, who was released by Cincinnati and resigned in November is ready to make a splash (aka play) this season.  I got a chance to catch up with Fui and talk about last year’s apprenticeship with the Bengals, his unique relationship with the late Chris Henry and what type of music gets him jammin’. The Football Girl:  In researching this interview I’ve seen in multiple places that’s there’s a song about you from your BYU days,…

Bruce Campbell is one of the more intriguing members of this year’s rookie class.  Many pundits had Campbell as a high first rounder, yet he fell to the Raiders in the fourth round at the 106th pick.  In another twist, Coach Tom Cable decided to move Campbell from offensive tackle to offensive guard, a position he has never played. I had a chance to catch up with Campbell and find out his feelings about the draft, his new position, and playing for the most stigmatized team in football.  And, in a series of rapid-fire, get-to-know-you questions, Campbell reveals himself as…

As the NFL draft countdown clock ferociously winds down, we thought it a good idea to take a deeper look inside those mysterious war rooms. We’ve enlisted the help of former NFL scout, Bryan Broaddus. Broaddus, a 13-year scouting veteran has held scouting positions for the Cowboys, Packers, Jaguars, and Eagles.  Listen as Broaddus explains the makeup of scouting departments, how an NFL Draft board is concocted, and how you can become a scout.  Plus he has some good Brett Favre anecdotes from his days as a Packers scout. Javon Walker has had a topsy-turvy ride in the NFL.  A promising career that started with a Pro Bowl in his second season with Green Bay took a major detour, fraught with injuries, a well-publicized mugging, and the death of his friend and Broncos teammate, Darrent Williams.  Soon after signing a 6 year, $55 million dollar contract with the Oakland Raiders in 2008, Walker suffered another injury and missed that whole season.  His time in Oakland was tumultuous, leading to his release on March 8th. But Javon says he’s healed and healthy and is currently looking for a new NFL…

This NFL off-season has especially been a non-stop merry-go-round of players moving to new teams.  Former Charger, Kassim Osgood, the three-time Pro Bowl special teams extraordinaire was one of those guys.  Osgood was picked up by the Jacksonville Jaguars a couple of weeks ago. I got to speak with Osgood about his chances to make an impact in the Jags’ receiver corps, moving from LaDanian Tomlinson to Maurice Jones-Drew, and how he plans to entertain us post-playing career. Listen to the podcast here: To keep up with the ever-entertaining Osgood, follow him on Twitter. Osgood loves the spotlight!
